If parenting is the art of shaping little humans, then it’s useful to consider the tools we have at our disposal to influence children.
Modelling :
is perhaps the most powerful way to shape little humans. The parent-child relationship is an intimate one.
Kids see our quirks and foibles first-hand; the reason many children conduct in similar ways to their parents.
Stimulate Your Baby with Open-Ended Questions
These are questions that don’t have a right or wrong response, and can’t be answered with only one word like “yes” or “no”.
For example, ask “How do you feel about…”,
“Tell me about what happened in school today.” These kinds of questions encourage your baby to develop his thoughts and ideas, they show love and interest, and will give you a window into his inner life.
Develop positive self-talk
Our kids can be experts at talking themselves down. It takes practice to change the patterns of negative self-talk. Mothers, in particular, need to be aware of their self-talk when your kids are around. Teach them about the language of affirmation.
The habits we encourage in our kids usually become ingrained as patterns of behaviour that stay for life, give them ownership of their mistakes and challenges, allowing them to find their own solutions to problems.
Rescuing and micro-managing children develops the pattern of dependence.
Positive Reinforcement:
Tell a child he’s capable; back this up by treating him as if he is capable and you’ll be sending a powerful message: ‘I really believe you can do this’.
Actions speak louder than words when it comes to the messages we give to kids.life, give them ownership of their mistakes and challenges, allowing them to find their own solutions to problems.
