School Policy

SCHOOL POLICIES AND UNDERTAKING

OES International School has framed various policies in conformity with prevailing laws and practices to safeguard the interest of the school, its students, and parents/guardians. Parents/guardians are advised to read the OES International School policies carefully.

INCLUSION POLICY

  1. OES International School supports ‘inclusion’ to a student with ‘special needs’ in the regular classroom. The school strives to make inclusive educational endeavours work in the best possible way.
  2. ‘Inclusion’ means that all students are entitled to equal opportunities provided by the Counsellor/Special Educator, in cooperation with the class teacher is involved in early identification and informal assessment of learning/behavioural difficulties. The Counsellor/Special Educator may recommend a formal assessment, which needs to be submitted at the earliest possible date.
  3. Based on observations and reports, the Counsellor/Special Educator recommends whether the student would benefit from being included in the classroom with or without a shadow teacher. The recommendation is made based on whether the inclusion would require the specialised and personal care of a teacher. In such a case, it alters the balance of the teacher: child ratio for the remaining children in the classroom.
  4. If the need for a shadow teacher is required, then the parents/guardians need to provide the shadow teacher within a fortnight in the benefit of the child. The cost of the shadow teacher will be borne by the parents/guardians, besides the school fees. In the absence of the shadow teacher, a substitute needs to be provided by the parent/guardian. The student’s attendance during the absence of the shadow teacher depends on the severity of the case and its effect on the smooth functioning of the classroom. The Centre Head and the in-house Counsellor/Special Educator will communicate the decision to the parents/guardians.
  5. The parent/guardian needs to meet the Counsellor/Special Educator as and when required to discuss the student’s progress. At the end of the year the Centre Head and the Counsellor/Special Educator will analyze the student’s performance. If the student has been unable to cope, the decision would be communicated to the parent / The student would then be advised to move to a level better suited to his/her capabilities.
  6. In case of behavioural issues where it is felt that the student’s behaviour is detrimental to other students in class, the Centre Head in consultation with the Counsellor/Special Educator and the Central office would observe the behaviour of such student during school hours and determine whether such student can be allowed to continue in the school with the help of a shadow teacher. If it is determined that such a child may continue in the school with the help of a shadow teacher, then the parents/guardians would provide the shadow teacher as mentioned in the previous paragraph. However, if it is determined that such a student should not continue in the school, even with the help of a shadow teacher, then the parents/guardians would be required to transfer such a student to a school which is specially structured for children who have behavioural problems.
